About Terri L. Florentino, Canine Consultant
Dog/Owner -Training/Educating -
My philosophy towards dog/owner training is
consistent with the Hippocratic Oath:
- "First Do No Harm"
"The higher your structure is to be the deeper
must be its foundation." -St. Augustine
I
can help you to understand your dog's point of
view. Motivational and positive training
strategies help you and your dog to have a
complete understanding of one another, thereby
leading to a fulfilling relationship.
Earning the endorsement of
N.A.D.O.I. (National Association of Dog
Obedience Instructors) along with my membership
to A.P.D.T.
(Association of Pet Dog Trainers) illustrates my
ongoing commitment towards educating dogs, their
owners and myself. My experience in training
group classes has taught me to be diverse in
approach and creative with methodology. I have
learned the importance of teamwork, along with
how to instruct proper social development
between you and your dog. Group training is a
critical tool in the training process.
Private instruction allows me the individualized
attention I so desire to have with you and your
dog. It affords me the luxury to first discuss
and question the relationship with you and your
dog. I will listen, watch and observe you and
your dogs' responses to one another. Once the
evaluation is complete, then a training program
based on the strengths and weaknesses of your
relationship (along with future goals) can be
established.
I
specialize in helping owners and dogs deal with
behavioral issues. I feel passionately that most
behavioral problems can be successfully
addressed. Understanding why your dog behaves in
a particular way is a necessary first step in
designing an appropriate solution. Too often, I
find people trying to correct the problem by
misusing a "device" rather than determining the
root cause of the behavioral issue. After a
satisfactory consultation (in conjunction with
proper temperament testing), a training program
specifically designed for you and your dog will
be delivered.
Having twenty years of experience as an Animal
Health Technician has given me a wealth of
knowledge in animal health care. There is a good
possibility that nutrition, care, maintenance,
or medical issues may well be the root cause of
a behavioral issue.
Membership in these
clubs has blessed me with the opportunity to
work with a large group of experienced dog
professionals: The Lackawanna Kennel Club,
National Association of Dog Obedience
Instructors, Therapy Dog International, American
Border Collie Association and Northeast Border
Collie Association and APDT.
